FOUR-LEGGED FLOYD’S A HINCKLEY AND RUGBY REGULAR

More used to assisting customers with their savings and mortgage requirements, staff at Hinckley and Rugby’s branch in Countesthorpe have one very particular customer who prefers to make his withdrawals in biscuits rather than cash.

Retired guide dog Floyd, who regularly visits the branch in Cosby Road with his owner Mrs Pamela York, patiently waits by the counter door on each trip, hoping to be offered a dog biscuit or two.

The ritual started around Christmas 2006 when staff gave Floyd some left-over biscuits to finish up. When the supply ran out, Floyd still looked for a treat and, not wanting to disappoint their canine visitor, staff bought a box of dog biscuits.

With staff keen to provide good customer service to all who visit the branch, the golden retriever now enjoys dog biscuits purchased exclusively for him every time he visits.

Customer Assistant Teresa Mansell said: “It’s quite funny – Floyd comes and sits at the door each time Mrs York is passing by and waits for his biscuit. He’s lovely.”

Pamela, who has been raising money for Guide Dogs for the Blind for many years, now finds herself frequently being led in the direction of Hinckley and Rugby when taking Floyd for a walk, whether she wants to visit or not! She chose to offer a home to a retired guide dog after the loss of her previous pet.

The Society presented Pamela York with a cheque for £100 made payable to Guide Dogs For The Blind and will be supporting the charity throughout April with counter collection boxes in all of its 11 branches across Leicestershire and Warwickshire.
