BON VOYAGE RUTH
A Rugby High School student is preparing to head overseas after completing her GCSEs this summer, thanks to the support of Hinckley and Rugby Building Society.
The Society has purchased a waterproof jacket, hat and a first aid kit to assist Ruth Long as she plans to embark on a community and environmental project in Namibia with World Challenge this summer.
More used to studying for exams, Ruth will be learning new skills as she treks through Fish River Canyon and helps to paint a local school building in Windhoek as part of her expedition.
Planning on studying for her A Levels on returning home, with the intention of one day possibly joining the Foreign Office, Ruth said: “I am looking forward to the challenges ahead in Namibia. I’ve had to obtain a fairly extensive amount of kit for the expedition and I’m grateful to Hinckley and Rugby Building Society for its support.”
Hinckley and Rugby PR Officer Lisajane Gooden said: “As a local community-based Society, Hinckley and Rugby is delighted to be able to support Ruth and wishes her every success with her exam results and her trip overseas.”
World Challenge was founded by Charles Rigby in 1987 and encourages students to learn through exploration of their environment. Its unique approach enables volunteers to develop their full potential whilst immersing themselves in a new community and sharing their skills and interests.
