Hinckley & Rugby’s Carla Loughrey has been named Volunteer of the Year by Leicestershire Cares.
Carla, the Society’s assistant marketing and PR manager, co-ordinates Hinckley & Rugby staff’s volunteering of their time and energy to support Cares with its various initiatives to help people, charities and community groups. In addition, she is an enthusiastic volunteer herself, leading by example in several important Cares projects.
At a ceremony at Leicester’s City Hall, Carla was presented with her award by City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby and Cares chairman Simon Proffitt.
Carla and her colleagues volunteer to help children with numeracy and literacy and help with Cares’ annual Collect for Christmas campaign, which last Christmas supported AGE UK in Leicestershire.
As part of its 150th anniversary celebrations, more than 20 volunteers from Hinckley & Rugby spent three days last autumn and winter transforming the garden at Barwell Community House in a Leicestershire Cares team challenge.
Monica Stark, director of Leicestershire Cares, said:
“Carla has been an outstanding Number Partner for three years and is adored by the children she supports.
“All the activities undertaken by Hinckley & Rugby are due to Carla’s drive and passion as she cares deeply about the impact that projects have on her local community.”
Carla, assistant marketing and PR manager, said:
“I’m chuffed to bits. Working with Leicestershire Cares is probably my favourite part of my job. To be thanked for it is wonderful. It’s a privilege to be involved.”
