Hinckley & Rugby Throws Mencap a Xmas Party

Hinckley & Rugby Building Society joined Hinckley Mencap’s Thursday Club for a Christmas party with carol singing and a festive quiz.

A 13-strong team of volunteers from six of the Society’s departments and branches threw the party for 40 members of the Thursday Club at Hinckley & District Mencap Society’s centre on Hill Street. The party was one of the Festive Challenges organised with Leicestershire Cares, the charity which brings together businesses and other employers with community groups and charities.

Hinckley & Rugby’s Carla Loughrey was the team leader for the Festive Challenge and said:

“The party was great fun and thoroughly enjoyed by our volunteers and by the Thursday Club members. “Our thanks go to Mencap for being so welcoming and also go to the Sainsbury’s store in Hinckley which donated platters of sandwiches as part of the buffet we laid on.”

Kelly Emery, society secretary at Hinckley & District Mencap, said:

“Our members and volunteers really enjoyed themselves and have been talking about it ever since. They had so much fun with the organisers from Hinckley and Rugby Building Society and it was everything you would expect from a Christmas Party. We cannot thank them enough as it meant so much to the members.”

The party is not the first time Hinckley & Rugby volunteers have helped at Mencap. In 2013 a Leicestershire Cares team challenge saw the Society’s staff use paint and brushes to transform Hinckley Mencap’s meeting room.
