As a mutual we are passionate about helping those in our heartlands of Leicestershire and Warwickshire and have a proactive approach to supporting others, whether it be through regular volunteering, ongoing sponsorship or one-off donations.

Hinckley Junior’s Under 7’s football team benefitted from a one-off donation when the Society covered the cost of their 2019/20 kits!

We don’t have a one size fits all approach to helping our communities.  In 2018, the Society donated over £13,000 to more than 50 local charities, individuals, schools, sports teams and projects – everything from raffle prizes, sponsorship cash for summer fairs and arts festivals to funding for school equipment, choir concerts and fun runs.

We’re proud of our ‘Community First’ scheme which gives our staff up to three days’ paid leave each year to get involved in volunteering projects of their choice.  Many choose to do so through our membership of Leicestershire Cares, an organisation that matches up those in need in the community with businesses like Hinckley & Rugby that have the resources and the can-do attitude to help them.

Each year, £1 for every vote in our AGM is donated to Rainbow’s Hospice. Pictured (l-r) Emily Wright and H&R’s Sophie Hancock with the Rainbows bear in 2018!

Local charities like LOROS, Rainbows, Mary Ann Evans and Myton, the quartet of hospices in our core branch area, naturally attract our attention and we support these financially through our successful Hospice Affinity Account and AGM. But so too do smaller, equally deserving, causes like prostate cancer charity PROSTaid and the fabulous work of a variety of Rotary, Round Table and Lions clubs.

Our commitment to supporting the local community will always be our priority, however we also appreciate the importance of national charities. That is why we get on board with many nationwide fundraising campaigns throughout the year – including Children in Need, Sports and Comic Relief, Wear it Pink and Jeans4Genes – and have fun doing it too!

Our community support also extends to the educational sector, with ongoing support given to financial educational projects within local schools and colleges, in a bid to prepare pupils for the world outside of school.
