Hinckley & Rugby Building Society is proud to announce that it is the lead sponsor for the Around the World 5K challenge, launched by mental health charity Lamp (Leicestershire Action for Mental Health Project).
Lamp hopes to promote the benefits to mental health of physical exercise and the local building society is happy to back such an important cause, especially at a time when there has never been more focus on people’s mental wellbeing.
Lamp is looking for at least 8,000 people across Leicestershire and Rutland to take part, whether it be through running, walking, cycling or even toddling – during Mental Health Awareness Week (10-16 May). In total, the completed 5Ks would match the Earth’s 40,000 km circumference – an impressive feat which will raise much-needed funds to help Lamp to support an increasing number of service users.
The charity has seen an increased demand for its services since the pandemic, including for access to its helpline and advocacy services so, to fundraise, the charity is encouraging people to get active. Physical exercise has a range of benefits for the mind, body and soul, and through sponsorships and donations for the Around the World 5K challenge, Lamp hopes to raise money to help more people in need.
At Hinckley & Rugby Building Society, there’s a strong focus on looking after mental health, with its wellbeing and mental health committee meeting regularly to keep the conversation going and discuss new ways of supporting staff. Employees are also given access to regular wellbeing catch ups if they would like them. This is why, when the chance to sponsor Lamp arose, Hinckley & Rugby’s Chief Executive, Colin Fyfe, jumped at the opportunity.
“We are proud supporters of Lamp and we’re delighted to be involved in this event. As a business, we encourage colleagues to take their own wellbeing and mental health seriously and are committed to providing support when it is needed.
“Earlier this year, we invited staff to sign up to our own Wellbeing and Mental Health Charter, putting this important issue at the centre of everything we do. Being a mutual, one of the Society’s priorities is to give back to our community and this is a perfect opportunity to do this.”
