Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs) were introduced by the government in April 1999. All income (interest) from ISA savings is free of income tax and capital gains tax. You can find out more about ISAs and the current allowances at gov.uk.

There are different types of ISA for different types of investor. Hinckley & Rugby only offers Cash ISAs (the normal type for general savers).

ISA saving limits

During any tax year (6 April to 5 April the following year) you can add up to £20,000 in total to all the ISAs you hold.

Opening and paying into a Hinckley & Rugby Cash ISA account

To open a Cash ISA account, please choose from our available ISA products.

To pay money into your ISA account (within your total annual limit), please see our Paying into your savings account page. Note that if you have a fixed rate ISA you will not be able to add to it during the fixed rate period.

If you want to transfer money into your ISA from another Hinckley & Rugby savings account, you will need to write to us. In your letter, please include:

  • the account number you want to transfer money from;
  • the account number you want to transfer money to; and
  • the amount you want to transfer.

Sign the letter (this must be the same signature as on the savings account) and either take it together with both passbooks to one of our branches or agencies or post them to us at:

To transfer your Hinckley & Rugby Cash ISA to another ISA provider

Please check your ISA account terms and conditions first. If your account can be transferred at this time, you just need to contact your new provider. They will tell you what you need to do.

If you are thinking about transferring only part of your ISA savings to another provider, please note:

  • We can only transfer all (not part) of the ISA deposits that you have made during the current tax year. This means the deposits that you have made since 6 April.
  • We can transfer either all or just part of the deposits that you made before 6 April.

We will transfer the funds to your new ISA provider within 5 business days of receiving the transfer instruction form from them.
