The Society’s Cheryl Pidler wins Consumer Duty Champion award

Cheryl, our Director of Operations, was presented with the award for Consumer Duty Champion of the Year at the first-ever Consumer Duty Leadership Awards on 26 June 2024.

The award, which was judged by an independent panel of experts, recognises Cheryl’s commitment to driving the Society’s customer-centric policies, which aim to put the customer first in everything we do. It is a testament particularly to her leadership role in reshaping our organisation to better meet the needs of our members.

Consumer Duty, initiated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), sets higher and clearer standards of consumer protection across financial services, and requires firms to put their customers’ needs first. Cheryl has taken a leading role in implementing the Duty from the start.

Speaking about the prestigious award, Cheryl said:

It is an honour to receive this award in recognition of the changes we have made across the Society to improve outcomes for our members. It has been a huge commitment for us, and I would like to thank Anita McNaught and the entire team for their continued hard work.

Chief Executive Officer Barry Carter also commented:

I am absolutely delighted that both Hinckley & Rugby Building Society and Cheryl have been recognised by the Consumer Duty Leadership Awards. It is testament to the work, commitment and importance that we have given this topic. Consumer Duty has really allowed us to reflect on how we operate as a Building Society to ensure that we put the customer at the centre of everything we do.
