Hinckley & Rugby Building Society turned party organisers to put on a Christmas bash for Hinckley Mencap’s Thursday Club with carol singing, festive bingo and a visit from Santa.
A dozen volunteers from the Society entertained more than 30 guests and helpers from Mencap at Hill Street in Hinckley.
The Hinckley & Rugby team was organised by customer assistant Sophie Hancock and administrator Suzanne Williams. It was one of Leicestershire Cares’ festive challenges for businesses to celebrate the season by helping others.
“I was really passionate being involved with this and couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to volunteer to help us throw a really amazing party. The whole party was a real success. One of the best bits was when Santa arrived; the whole room erupted with excitement.
“We had some generous donations from Britvic and Walkers which helped us to give the partygoers a fantastic spread. I had a brilliant night and enjoyed every second of it and hope that all the Mencap service users had as good a time as the Hinckley & Rugby staff did.”
“The evening was filled with joy, fun, singing and laughter. Everyone had a fantastic time. The smiling faces and excitement from each person when Santa was handing out their gift is something I won’t forget.
“Thanks to all the team that helped out. I’m sure they’ll all agree it was a pleasure to give something back to the community.”
Kelly Emery, society secretary at Hinckley & District Mencap, said: “We were thrilled with how it went. All the volunteers and members had a great time. Thank you so much to everyone at Hinckley & Rugby for organising it and giving up their time to host the evening.”
The party is not the first time Hinckley & Rugby volunteers have helped at Mencap. Last Christmas also saw the Society throw a party and in 2013 a Leicestershire Cares team challenge saw Hinckley & Rugby staff decorate Hinckley Mencap’s meeting room.
